Frequently Asked Questions:
Kickboxing
What's the difference between Kenpo and Kickboxing?
Kickboxing focuses almost exclusively on techniques
for striking and kicking, and working those techniques on different
pads and bags. Kenpo is a complete martial art and focuses on
teaching students to defend against a variety of attacks by armed
and unarmed aggressors. Kenpo also includes joint manipulations,
throws, forms, and other advanced training. However, both are
great for getting in shape!
Is there a ranking system for Kickboxing students?
No, there is no formal ranking system for our Kickboxing
students. Depending on the skill and training, a student may elect
to attend the Advanced Kickboxing class, but there are no colored
belts or official ranks.
Will I ever have to fight a
real person?
No. The Advanced Kickboxing students are invited
to take part in the Friday night sparring classes for a chance
to use their techniques in a ring with each other or the Kenpo
students, but attending the sparring class is entirely optional.
If I train with you, will I be ready to step into
the ring?
Though we have had Kickboxing students transition
to amateur and professional kickboxing, our training is not intended
to prepare the students for that type of fighting.
